When arriving to Male International Airport in the Maldives, your first view of paradise is not only out of your airplane window but also immediately exiting the airport towards the boats awaiting to whisk guests off to their islands and resorts. The Maldives has been on my must visit list for quite some time and I’ve been saying for the past couple years that it was THE place I would go to on my 30th birthday. So to the Maldives we came!
We hopped on a beautiful boat headed west towards our next stop being greeted with cold towels and water for our journey. A scenic hour and a half boat ride later, we arrived at Kuramathi Island Resort, a Maldivian resort tucked away on it’s own private island, surrounded by untouched coral reefs, vast marine life and over water villas, my personal dream! Not only is the resort visually beautiful and grand in every way, but the attention to detail that every single staff member seemed to have was uncanny. After we touched down on land. we were greeted with welcome drinks, cold towels, and a personal golf cart and driver that whisked us away to our private over water villa. Our villa was UNREAL. If you could envision a picture of paradise, this villa at Kuramathi emulated it. A large 1 bedroom villa with an entire wall of glass doors donning views overlooking the bright turquoise hues of the Indian Ocean. Step outside and you have your own private outdoor shower and walkway down to the warm and inviting water, just asking you to jump in. My dreamy 30th birthday destination had come to life in every spectacular way!
If the over water villa experience wasn’t enough to heighten our senses, the rest of the resort was so unbelievably pristine and lovely that it was hard not to want to explore every square inch of this amazing island from sunrise to sunset. The grounds, AMAZING. The food, AMAZING. The pool, AMAZING. The staff, AMAZING. The experience, AMAZING. You get the gist. Everything was amazing and an experience and destination I will never, ever forget. The Maldives has become part of me and my journey. Spending our days, jumping in and out of the Indian Ocean from our villa like kids, roaming the island barefoot with the morning sun peaking through the surrounding palm trees, gasping as fish, sharks and sting rays aimlessly swim by, basking in the Maldivian sun, cooling off in the infinity pool as the sun sets over the horizon, it doesn’t get much better than that.
The perfect way to begin this media tour halfway across the world and an experience I am so grateful to have experienced as I move onto this next chapter in my life. My 20’s have been quite the insane adventure, I have loved, I have lost, I have lived, I have experienced, I have taken risks, I have succeeded in both success and failure and I have changed my life in more ways than I can count. I have continued to push myself to my limits, past my limits, out of my comfort zone and onto bigger and better things. To all that have been apart of this last decade of my life, whether it be for a few weeks, a few months, a few years, or the entire decade, thank you for making my 20’s memorable, a learning experience and something I will forever cherish.
Onto another little piece of Maldivian paradise and then off to explore India, Sri Lanka and Singapore!
