When I travel, I always love to experience a mix of local and luxury experiences. On our first visit to New Delhi, we definitely got the local experience as we stayed at a less expensive accommodation and celebrated Holi with the locals. It was a very colorful, eye-opening experience and I’m so glad we were able to be a part of the Indian culture in that way! But after a week of traveling around other parts of India on a budget, it was such a welcome and wonderful surprise when we pulled up to the Shangri-La Eros New Delhi! When I think of Shangri-La Hotels, I think of a 5 star experience and stay and that’s exactly what we got! It set the bar extremely high for any other hotel stays in the future!
Crystal chandeliers, vaulted ceilings, high-end restaurants with incredible, homemade food, rooms with stunning views overlooking New Delhi, an executive club room with delightful staff, drinks and hors d'oeuvres. top notch service and attention to detail, unlike any I have experienced before. Upon arriving to the Shangri-La Eros Hotel in New Delhi, we were greeted with such kindness and helpfulness getting us checked in quickly to our room and shown around the stunning hotel grounds. And now you can even use the new Shangri-La Hotel App that allows you to not only book your room, but also mobile check-in and check-out to your room in advance. Our room was located on the 8th floor and had the most incredible open bathtub with views of our room and views of the city through our panoramic window! The bed was so plush and all I wanted to do was cozy up in the super soft Shangri-La robes, order room service and lay in bed. And that I did! Breakfast in bed consisted of a giant spread of waffles, pancakes, omelets, fresh fruit, a bread basket, fresh squeezed juice, hot coffee and tea. It was incredible to say the least! Seeing as the hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to some nearby markets, shopping and sights, we took advantage and spent some of our days exploring all the beautiful and colorful goods that India had to offer and sights like Humayan's Tomb, a beautiful sandstone tomb built in 1572.
Some days were spent out and about exploring, while others were mixed lounging by the Shangri-La Eros pool sipping on custom mocktails and eating at Sorrento, one of the hotel's restaurants that makes homemade Italian favorites, including pasta, pizza and gelato. It was a lovely way to relax amongst the chaos of India! Nights were some of my favorite times as we headed up to the Horizon Club Executive Lounge on the 19th floor which boasted stunning sunset views of New Delhi, and where we mingled with other guests and the lovely staff among drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Sitting with a glass of wine while overlooking the incredible Indian landscape, reflecting on all the amazing things we had done and seen in India. was my favorite way to end our days.
During our stay, it also happened to be International Women’s Day and the staff delivered a bouquet of roses, homemade cookies and a box of chocolates to our room celebrate me being a woman. It was such a special and thoughtful moment, only one that Shangri-La Hotels knows how to do and one that I will cherish forever! Overall, we were super spoiled at the Shangri-La Eros New Delhi. It was an incredible and magical 5 star experience to close out our time in India and one that I will never forget. The service, food, views and attention to detail were next level and we were so sad to leave but so glad we were able to experience it on our tour across the world.
